I'm setting up a couple of distributors in NZ. They will have tobacco next week. Yes, it will cost more, but you will receive your orders in a timely manner and it won't be heat treated.
Kia ora koutou,
new to this forum, but another kiwi pipe smoker getting his head around tobacco imports and growing at home. I was wondering if some could confirm that importing whole leaf is not liable for tobacco duty and provided the total value including shipping is less than $1000nz Any gst is waived? I was intending on using the next few years as a buffer while I aged my home crops, but with the recent law change I am wondering whether I should be ordering some bulk lead ASAP

Yeah man I know all about the surprise factor of whether stuff arrives or not, Blimmin heck don’t get me started. LolYour order may or may not show up and may or may not be ruined when it arrives haha, but hey, we live in Aotearoa, we can’t have everything.
From 1st of July, importing tobacco essentially becomes prohibited and whole leaf will be taxed. Got a good blend to match mixture 79? Haha...probably my favourite blends are:What is the July cut off for NZ. If someone posts what they like to smoke we can all put our heads together and come up with some blends.
The villager would be the only one I could do easily the others require perique which wlt is out of at the moment. One has a casing that I don't use but to make the navy flake is easy. You would need to use both suppliers Big's and WLT you would want the orangey yellow the cdn the flue cured red and proportions and you would need a cold press. I would use 20% yellow cdn leaf 40% orangey yellow some of the light yellow from big 10% red 20% and 10% of the double bright leaf. you can also use the premium virginia. in the yellow mixture. Cut to the thickness you like. In a container hand fold the tobacco knead it like bread. Make sure it is moist the press for at least a month. After one month it should be hard the flip for another month. Flipping the tobacco allows the juices to flow so all the tobacco gets the flavour and i essence marinades the tobacco. Typically it takes longer but you should be getting some flavour at least. From 1st of July, importing tobacco essentially becomes prohibited and whole leaf will be taxed. Great guy and very knowledgeable about growing tobacco and cattle. If you are planning to grow your own tobacco I would advise anyone to search his posts on the forum. What’s big’s? Lol

No issues with perique here. It is whole leaf with the ribs.Any kiwis had any issues with shipping perique and the hand leaf leaf?? Just wanting to get a feel for the local understanding of unmanufactured. Also do we think the 8lb limit still roughly applies? I’m ordering 12lb, but just trying to decide if peace of mind is worth the extra freight/heat treatment costs of seperate orders
