I don't think so, unless the midrib weighs that much
I did a test run of va309 and took down 3 dried rows of Dried leaf, each row of leaf 100 to 120 Leaves actually large.
After destemming and shredding I got that amount. 1 pound for 100+ leaves
I was Bummed.:(

I think i ended up with about 40 plants this year, though I had room for 100. Next year I going to shoot for around 150 plants. I'm thinking that will be about my max if I want to be able to rotate areas on a 3 year cycle. I'm estimating that should be about twice my yearly consumption.

That's what I was calculating when I decided to grow 50 plants. 50 plants yielded over 800 leaves and I consume abou 8lbs a year. But I soon realized how much smaller the leaves are on the Oriental varieties. Then I lost 100 leaves due to curing mishaps. So now I see the wisdom of growing twice as much as you use in a year.

I never plan that far in advance. To many things could come up.[WORK]I want to grow varietys I haven't tried and a few that I like alot. As far as quantity lets see how well I take care of this years to see how that goes. I would like to keep it about the same as this year to get a feel for the time and work involved.

I doubled the size of my area this year over last year for all the good it did me with this sucky seasons weather. I went from a 50' X 30' patch to 100' X 30'. I DID learn some things this growing season so not everything was a waste! I am finally narrowing down my selection of varieties. It is hard to decide when you have never grown or smoked most before. The biggest thing that has helped me in making my decisions has been via leaf given to me by Skychaser. I now can honestly say I have varieties I absolutely love and some that I wouldn't waste my time growing.

Life, the definition of "continuing education".

Chicken, I had really good luck growing and enjoyed the taste of PA Red, Red Tobacco, Paris Wrapper, Wisconsin 901 and Connecticut 49. My Little Dutch tasted great but the yield and leaf size disappointed me. Skychaser gave me some leaf last year from Early VA Gold which I found to be super easy to cure and an excellent additive to stretch my store bought Black Cavendish pipe tobacco. My wife really likes the aroma it adds. I have not tried rolling any cigars from my own leaf yet but hope to soon. I prefer a good cigar to a pipe but shredding leaf for the pipe is easier and quicker.

My lack of a kiln caused my 2011 crop to just now be coming into it's own. I still need to get that kiln built, so many projects, so little time! Due to our short growing/curing season right now I am leaning towards more of the white stem or gold varieties which cure easily.

I still have quite a few varieties from 2011 that I haven't tasted yet. I hope to do some more taste testing to see what my favorites are.
