Hi everyone,
I’m currently working on processing a batch of homegrown Shami (Levant) tobacco, but I’m running into a consistent issue with burn performance. The cigarette keeps extinguishing mid-smoke and requires constant relighting.
From what I understand, Shami leaf typically has a unique chemical and sugar profile compared to standard Virginia or Burley. I’d love to get your insights on a few points:
Thanks in advance!

From what I understand, Shami leaf typically has a unique chemical and sugar profile compared to standard Virginia or Burley. I’d love to get your insights on a few points:
- What are the primary chemical or physical factors that cause this specific type of leaf to lose its cherry/ember so easily? (e.g., high sugar/resin content, low natural potassium, density, or moisture retention?)
- How do you usually balance the burn rate for sun-cured or oriental-style leaves without harshness or ruining the natural flavor profile?
- Are there specific DIY casing or conditioning techniques you recommend to improve burn consistency for leaves with poor natural combustibility?
Thanks in advance!
