i built this section for 2 reasons,,, in december it started my seeds,,,, in many starting trays,,, filled it up. with flat's. and run 4,,,4 foot fourescent light tubes over them,,,it worked excellent,

now it's time to turn it into a kiln,,,a lot of needed materials i have, from my last kiln,,

2 ,,, 250 watt heat lamps, and assemblly,,, 2 big crock-pots, and one smaller one,1 oscilating fan_6'',,,,one small 4'' inch fan,{ not fast at all. good for circulation }

i been slowly, insulating the inside, with styrofoam sheets. pasted to the walls, for insulation,'' i didnt get a pic, of what i have, but i have enough insulation to line the whole room''

my plan is to use it for a good area, for colour curing,,, and when i get it in hands, fill the whole thing up with baccy,,,and do one possiblly 2 cookings, and then process { shred] all of it and store it,

some holes i had in it, for fresh air circulation will be sealed,basically the whole thing will be sealed air-tight,, venting only when the timer tells it to<!!!!!

i will be adding a digital controller to regulate, the humidity and temp. { of which i have multiple of temp. and r,h, guages to place all thru the kiln,}

your thought's... ideas....suggestions, ALL IS WELCOME , and perhaps some-one else building a kiln may get some input from this thread,:confused:

it's made out of the back side of this 70's era camper, from the triple window back, is the kiln, about 3-4 ft; wide

im really hoping i can sustain a good hot temp in there,,,, being it is kinda big,,,but with proper insulation, it should get quiet hot in there,????

I was going to use my spray booth but it is not cost effective.
My second choice is a kiln room I built about 10 yrs ago to dry reclaimed heartpine which I turned into flooring with a Nyle kiln.
It has 3 inches of foam insulation all around.
It is a little bigger than yours 12 by18 by 8 ft tall.
I am thinking of using a trailer Heater with a humidifer,
Using the downdraft method and hope I might be able to reach 160 degrees.
Still Thinking

Bead board insulation absorbs water. A friend tried building a kiln insulated with the stuff and the insulation got soaking wet.

Bead board insulation absorbs water. A friend tried building a kiln insulated with the stuff and the insulation got soaking wet.

i aqquired a lot of that bead-board,,,,,but then i run across, the type of stuff they use in '' shipping'' a product, to line the walls of the box with,,,

i'll get some pics of them tonight,i have a lot of those, and i have some vinyl coated insulation, the type they use on the inside of a commercial '' metal building'',,,

bob, your input on this will be great, ive seen pic's of your kiln,,, and i know you know a lot of knowledge when it comes to kiln's.

i want to build it once, and use it for years to come,

how's them strret signs in there,? you think they will make good insulation,? seems like heat wouldnt be able to escape, thru the sign?

i havent went crazy, with the caulking yet,,i had it so it would breathe when i used it to start my garden...now i must seal it up.

im proablly going to use the area, also for a colour curing area, till i get some hands toghter, and turn on the kiln,
