#1 is the first of three planned patches. This one is only going to be Southern Beauty to feed the flue-cure fridge. I got my seed from New Hope Seed last year and I thought it suckered real bad. This year I got new seed from Sustainable Seed and I am hoping for better luck. I'm increasing the space between the rows from 3' to 4', I hope it's enough. My plan is for a 3 leaf prime to yield one full layer in the fridge or a 5 leaf prime to give me two slightly less dense layers. Patches 2 and 3 will follow soon.

208, it makes room for some loss. Patch 2 and 3 will have another 450 plants of mixed Turkish. Time and weather permitting, all three will be replanted. I'm still figuring out plant sizes and days to maturity so that I can try to keep the tallest stuff to the North end and have areas to till for the second planting.

What are you going to do with all that tobacco?

Is there an advantage to replanting over letting the bottom sucker produce a plant?

What are you going to do with all that tobacco?

I want a "spice cabinet" Of Turkish tobaccos to work with. Flue-cured will be the only quantity tobacco, everything else will be small amounts. I'm not really sure if the spring rains will let me get away with this. I've only got about 1/2 of the seeds in yet, so the qty and varieties are still up in the air.

There is the same amount of work involved for raising, harvesting, and curing suckers for less than half the bounty. It seems leaf sizes are always smaller and fewer. Not to mention the extra nutrients they take from the soil if replanting same plot again.

Will the ground thaw in time to put them in the ground? I'll let you have the honor, if you claim it. I shouldn't have thrown away my germination tests.
