Started these a little over a month ago. In my haste, I left them outside too early on a dry, windy day. Then I over fertilized. I may have let them get too dry to keep from also over watering.

Open to suggestions and also sympathy, or grief.

The ones that are totally white are toast. But even a hint of green suggests that they can recover.

If over fertilizing is the issue I once rescued my tomato seedlings by digging them up, rinsing the roots and planting them in fresh soil.

Instead of "grow blog", perhaps a "blow grog"? I think we've all blown some grog in our time and likely will again in the future.

I'm starting to have this problem on three of my varieties. Has anyone found the problem?

A far cry from the baker's dozen I'd hoped for back in February. It'll have to do. 3 Corojo 99 and 4 Criollo 98.

I'll keep them here for a couple of days. Wind in the forecast for 48 hours and this is mostly sheltered spot. The side yard where the kiddie pool goes is the least sheltered.

I thought I had posted an update:

The funny looking kid with a weird nose (about 7 o'clock) is an eggplant. No flowers yet, but it looks better than the plants in the regular garden bed.

Sharpshooter. They are harmless for the most part but they do carry diseases.

The real magic of the kiddie pool method requires a pool filled with tobacco plants. That's the only way to keep the bags shaded and the roots cool. The extra tomato and eggplants did not provide enough canopy. Additionally, the tobacco shaded them enough to keep them from fruiting at all, a real lose/lose situation. The fruiting plants only provided food and shelter for pest insects that I have never had issues with in the past on my tobacco. Like whatever this is:

Despite all that, this has been successful for what I thought would be a salvage season. They've all reached a decent height with good leaf size.

One thing I noticed, my Criollo flowers are paler than the Corojo.

A taxonimic question, are there any marked differences in leaf shape, or vein angels between the two varieties to tell them apart? Of course I have one grow bag that ended up with both plant markers in it. If I wasn't growing in a container, and didn't have the amount of heat stress I've seen in some of the plants I'd use height - but so far that's not enough of a difference.

taxonimic question

I have grown Corojo 99, but not Criollo 98. Neither is included in the ARS-GRIN database. I believe the primary difference between the two is related to resistance to specific pathogens. From the photos available, they look quite similar. I believe the leaf dimensions and vein angles are quite similar. I am unable to locate a photo of the blossom of Criollo 98 that is identified.

On sucker duty this morning, I found ample sign of a small, freshly hatched hornworm.
Upon further inspection, I found some unknown ally had dispatched the worm, but left the horn:

When the pest control salesman at the door points out the paper wasp nests under my eaves, I scoff.
