I am an avid gardener and decide to try growing some tobacco for my father in law who smokes a pipe. I planted my seeds on 3/23 I believe in these expanding peet pots I purchased from HD and everything sprouted but they won't grow. They seems to have all stopped at like 1/2" tall. I will get a picture later.

I have them in my boiler room so it's pretty hot in there already. I have grow lights about 12" above.

I tried to plant more seeds last week in different soil to experiment but I am out of seeds and out of time to plant more I think.

“Hot” is relative - what’s the approximate temp? Are you referring to the peat pucks that expand when exposed to water? If so I use those every year. They do not contain any fertilizer so you need to add a little to your water after a few weeks.

They look leggy, seeming to need more light. Otherwise they look healthy. Tobacco grows very slowly for the first month. Their growth rate is also influenced by the specific variety. Below are some of my 2023 seedlings about 4 weeks after germination.

Yours will be dramatically larger by the end of May.

So I raised my plants up closer to the light and they are doing a lot better. The leaves and getting larger but they are only an inch or so tall. I also have a question about the drying process. Should I ask that here of in a different forum?

Thank You
