I'm a happy man today! Knucks sent me a sample of VA Red.

How are you liking that Va Red Leaf? I love it in a pipe by itself. It's up into my top three single variety pipe smokes and the cigarette blend I made with it is really smooth and flavorful.

Actually, I'm not crazy about it as a standalone pipe smoke. Or as too heavy an ingredient in a cigarette blend. It has a bit of a bite on the exhale that lingers and I didn't detect any of the Flue Cured Virginia sweetness in it. Goes to show how much individual tastes differ. For blending it in cigs I like 60% Bright Leaf Flue Cured, 20% Virginia Red, and 20% Turkish.

If that is some of the VA Red Flue cured that FMGrowit has I believe it has something to do with curing at higher temps. I thought I had read something about it here on the forum somewhere but cant seem to find the post now

Hi Bob,
I'm asking for Virginia Red. I believe that is Virginia Bright flue cured. But why become red. What exact are higher temperatures?

Any flue-cure classed tobacco can be referred to as "Virginia." Some produce very bright leaf when flue-cured, others produce darker leaf. Their flavors differ.

Just read through the whole thread. Wow knucklehead! Those are some beautiful pieces!! All I got is a dremele right now. I think I just might try my hand at one of those pre drilled setups and see what happens. You folks are so inspiring. I got a sampler from WLT the other day. I been trying some casing techniques. If you guys doit I don't see how y'all smoke it straight. Goodness that stuff can be rough. The lemon is about the only one I can stand without trying to do something to it.
