= A little experiment of mine with 2 plants of a German sort of Burley growing in Sand and Organic Waste in the bottom of the bucket.
As u see , just made a '' haircut'' on one of'em.......
All of My bucket plants are in six gallon pickle buckets, I drilled a hole in them 2" above the bottom. Then put pea gravel in the bottom 4"deep with a burlap wick from the bottom to the soil level. The mix was Cheap Big Lots garden soil and sand (free here) and 4" of seed starting poting soil on top. Then I put the regular dirt on top of that to keep evaporation down. They look good so far. On the ones I put out front for My wife, I put clear cups over the little seedlings I just hardend off. And put dirt half way up the cup to keep it from blowing away. Micro green house. I think I will get some more worms and put them in as well. Sounds like You have a bad slug problem? There have been a lot of posts on how to rid them on site. I just get horn worms here. That Snus looks good.

Thanks Randy !
Recipe is not far away now and I hope you have a grinder or a blender ( but a blender can'r grind the midrib )
Only thing you need is tobacco , salt , water and potash or sodiumcarbonate.
Think your wife let you occupy the owen for a week ?
A friend of mine used a pressurecocker , might be what you call crockpot and he says it was ready in 8 hours + 2 hours afterheat.
Said it was the best thing he had done in a long time.

Wow, 6 gallons , thats like 25 or so Liters and thats big+good I guess.
The dreamscenario for me would be to have my patch just outside on our patio where I live ( rental apartment) .
There is loads of space , I could easy have several hundred buckets out there , but 100-200 would be just fine with me.
Am a bit fed up with taking my bike ( no car ) and ride 3 miles one way every time I go to my patches , would like something more ''lazymans'' patch just outside the door.
You did use snus did you not MO ?

PO, I'm an every type of baccy user ther is LOL. I smoke a hand made Curchwarden, Roll cigs. and cigars. on top of that I chew a wad here and there. When I am out in the electrtical feild it is snuff and snus. I use a small amount so I don't need to spit. I had 50 buckets out side with plants in and went out to water them 2 weeks ago. Now I have 9 left. I should have removed the handles LOL. Maybe I can rent them out for weddings when they are up and green. HA HA HA I rent an apartment Here in town and I put any thing I wish out there. Never got a complaint. I don't see why they wouldn't like to see nice bucket plants at Your house? Every one here loves it when I do it. Your plants look great. Give it a try, like one on both sides of Your front door to see how it works out. No mess and no holes in the ground.

From one thing to another , sad as it seems to be , I have lost a number of plants to frost.
Was out on the patches earlier today with some more plants , filled a waterbarrel to get temperated and thought I'd go and check out my Rusticas.
It came as a big surprise to me to see some plants looking really strange in colour , just as if they were about to melt or something like that , will probably take some pics tomorrow.
Could never imagine myself it would come this far , there was most probably some wind making this even worse.
Lost myself walking around THAT patch and didn't even have the energy to count the wounded one's ( or dead ) .
Wrote a PM to BigBonner to see what he can offer.

Just the Rusticas? (I would have thought them to be more hardy.)

It's sad to here that. Your plants are top notch and nice to see on your blog. The ones I have in the buckets, I can put clear plastic on. The ones in the ground- burlap. Butt in Your case a three mile ride two ways! WAA If We have a frost here at this time, It will be a freak frost. Almost lost some to frost as well. What a dash and drop(burlap) So how bad did It get You?

Spoke to BigBonner about it and he said to just wait and see what happens , them baccyplants are much more capable than one can imagine.
Its hard to say MO , but just the sight of these plants made me understand that somethin was wrong , about 30 outof 200.

Sorry to hear that PO. I know the feeling all too well. I hope they pull thru for you.
I came home to this yesterday. I have no clue to what happened to these. I am really starting to think my wife sprayed them with something they were fine the day before. I have a backup plan. Super Bonner comes to rescue when needed.

This is what it looked like today , aint too pretty is it ?
Fooled by summertemperatures for 10-14 days up in the mid 70's , thinkin' we're lucky to have such an early start this year......
42 of my Rusticas looked like this , but there is still 58 of them looking healthy.Haven't planted all my Tabacums but the one's I took out yesterday had somewhat of a bite in them aswell.....
Let's hope we we all get some degs out there soon and nice weather too.
