Im just trying to gauge the nicotine.
Just have fun with it. Usually when just virginia is used it's bright leaf and the other kinds will say red etc
Well, I have the habit of inhaling and am spoiled on fine Javanese tobacco. I tend to shy away from the heavy N hitters. :cautious:

Ive been curious about that leaf, sounds wonderful. Did you use Red, Bright or Ripe Va?
It's been pretty tasty. Just mixed with some generic VA flue Cured. Probably somewhere between the red and the bright.
I should try mixing withe a little Samsun

Oh, so the N hit is coming from the Cameroon but we don't know the leaf position so it is what it is. Im reaching my limit at 30% Dark Fired with that generic Va. which is ok as a last smoke because a high dose of N makes me sleepy.

I assume so, given as VA is a pretty well known low N variable, despite it's nebulous leaf position.
Even the Ripe VA doesn't tend kick my butt; I snus High N and I smoke mostly Dark Air, Fire Cured, and Burley (smoking a nice bowl of Burley right now :) ).
I'd be misleading you if I claimed it was the Cameroon with any certainty.
I smoked the Cameroon by itself, and it didn't get me the same way (I think, now you have me second guessing myself, I'll have to revisit it).
It SEEMS to me that there's something about the mix of the 2, but I am uneducated about the reason why that would be, and can't explain with any scientific foundation.

I can always set the Cameroon aside to make cavendish later if its too strong for me. But I know what you mean, some combinations have an enhanced effect that I can't quite put my finger on. Also persistent tongue bite no matter how much dark/air leaf I add and this is to the point of N making the lungs heavy. I think a lot of the leaf available is a year out from being fully aged* which is where the harshness and bite are coming from. Some are more sensitive to it than others.

*Im simply assuming that the supply chain for Big Tobacco is long and well staged, meaning the leaf will age while in the supply stream. And I assume that the supply chain is much shorter for our distributors who have no control over how long the leaf is cured/aged by the farmer. Maybe that's why plugs are so popular.

Ive read this thread at least three times and finally getting around to trying some of the blends over the past couple weeks. Smiling Toad is perhaps my favorite of those Ive tried but only after adjusting the Perique (as suggested in Bob's poast). Then I pressed a bunch and now have to wait. Delilah was also good but I ended up adding a little bit more Va. Bright and Latakia and this is pressed too. Im now smoking Towers of Antioch and Warspur Match. Though Im using flue-cured instead of air-cured Virginia its still a great blend.

As a newbee, if I could start over I would get the blends from WLT first, then come here and try these blends before wildly attempting it on my own. But at least Im on the right track now.

First go with the noodle press is a variation on my standard VaPer. All WLT ingredients.
All of the leaf was previously shredded and sitting in my ingredients jars waiting for blending.

Ripe Virginia (13.3g)
Lemon Virginia (13.3g)
Bright Leaf Virginia (13.3g)
St. James Perique (24g)
Toasted (260 @ 10 minutes) Dark Air Cured (12g)

I sprayed the mixed blend with about 3tsp of water. Basically what I would consider slightly too moist for smoking.

I then pressed it in noodle press overnight. This morning I cut off a bit less than 1/4 of the plug and rubbed it out. Here are the results:

It needed no special drying after rubbing out was in perfectly smokable case. This one is a keeper, especially for someone who is impatient and wants overnight results. Anyone got a name?
