Sounds like a classic sugar cookie (don’t forget the vanilla). My favorite variation is to add 3-4 teabags of Earl Gray tea to the dough. You’ll never make them plain again. I’ve also made them with ground mace instead. A great warm flavor that’s just delicious.

Good as Gold

Today, I went to the bank and withdrew two hen's eggs from the safety deposit box. At home, I hard boiled them. These, together with dill pickle relish, mayo, mustard, chives and black pepper, were upcycled into egg salad. For lunch, I ate an egg salad sandwich, luxuriating in every bite.

Broccoli Cheddar Krystal Cheeseburger Potato Chowder

For those unfamiliar with Krystal Hamburgers, the restaurant chain has been around in the south-east US since the 1950s. Their specialty is a little hamburger that measures only about 2½" x 2½" (more recently known as a "slider"). When I was a boy, they cost 12 cents each.

A leftover Krystal Cheeseburger, imported this week from Florida by my brother, was looking a bit tired. I pried off the top and bottom bun, diced them, and toasted the little cubes of bun.

The beef patty assembly (beef, cheese, fried onion, pickle, mustard—all stuck together) was diced and added to a can of Broccoli Cheddar soup, along with a well drained can of diced potato.

Along with the croutons, a generous sprinkle of dill weed provided a bit of color (though the bits of dill pickle are hiding in there somewhere).

Yes. They were both originally depression-era restaurants originating about 90 years ago, selling 5-cent hamburgers and coffee. White Castle in Wichita, Kansas, and Krystal in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

We have Krystal restaurants here but we can buy frozen White Castle in the grocery stores. They look and taste very similar.
