your new plot looks real good,,, and that load of cow manure, will do you good,,, i allways try to use poop if i can get my hands on it,, i had a patch in my first grow, that i put about a ton of chicken poop, in with the soil, and grew great things,,,

plus it will help aeriate your soil, im currentlly, filling up 5 gallon buckets, with random piles of poop i come across, during my deliveries to farms,, ill mound it up. and grow my plant in the middle, of the mound, and cover it, with phourous landscaping materiel, to prevent too much soil evaperation, but im doing that for watermelon, and cantaloupe, production,

but good job, on choosing to use, poop. you cant go wrong with something natural, especially when starting any plant..

Excellent clipping video Maks. Another nominee for the FTT Video Library.

I think you need to slow down on the coffee, though, you seemed a little nervous and you were moving really fast. :D Next time, more Teachers, less coffee.

Soil test

It's been a while....

I was waiting for soil test for about a month and I get it today. My friend didn't have time and I didn't want to bother him anymore so I buy Rapitest. As I was expecting my soil is depleted. I didn't fertilize this patch. I need to make tests also in other locations. Here are the results:

So, what do you recommend to improve this soil.
As I can read this colors:
nitrogen- depleted
phosporus- deficient
potash- surplus
Ph- around 7

hi rainmax be aware that those results must be verified at day light and outside

Ok. I didn't write down that I take samples with plastic trowel from five different locations at my home tobacco garden; approx. 4-6 inches deep. I dried soil a bit in plastic container. Remove all debris and stones. Than i mix it with water. I use metal spoon in this case(?!?). I wait 2 hours that soil and heavy parts settled down and make test. After two minutes I make this photos on day light outside in my porch. If there is nothing wrong that mix with metal spoon than this are true results. No nitrogen and no phosphorus.

Last year I used the same test kit, my pH looked about the same. I had a few plants that frenched, not allot, spread out around the patch. Your P and K results are about the same as I got, it didn't cause any problem. From looking at the shade of your N test, N looks OK. Last year mine was paler than yours and the Turkish grew well.

Maybe it's just the light, but I'm seeing adequate on nitrogen and sufficient on potash and potassium? Again, you see it in real life, I'm just seeing pictures. (Fantastic photos though, who's your photographer? :D)

I didn't get a soil test this year because I felt my results would keep changing as amendments I added to the soil broke down. I added a load of cow manure mixed with a lot of rotten hay, a load of old aged saw dust, but not rotten yet, and horse manure. I decided to watch the plants to see if they would tell me what they needed. I have been planted for about two weeks now and some of my leaves had begun to yellow so I added some 13-13-13 granular fertilizer. If you are in doubt, maybe you could try planting and see what happens. You can always add, but you cannot take some back if you overdo it.

Ok. I make test on other soils and I get the same results thus is completely different soil. Thats mean Rapitest sucks. I will do it once more in late fall.
I was very busy last few days and I DID put all my plants in the soil. I was again on few different locations and I have all together:

  1. 64x Virginia bright,
  2. 11x YTB,
  3. 83 Prilep 66-9/7,
  4. 8x Pennsylvania Red,
  5. 8x Jalapa TI615,
  6. 10x Bolivia Criollo Black,
  7. 8x Timor TI83,
  8. 8x Dominican Olor,
  9. 31x Little Dutch,
  10. 9x Comstock Spanish,
  11. 9x Bucak,
  12. 9x Black sea Basma,
  13. 12x Connecticut Broadleaf,
  14. 12x Florida Sumatra,
  15. 7x Machu Picchu
  16. 21x Havana 142
  17. 6x Çelikhan and few rusticas in containers.

It was much work and love involved and god help us with good wether. Until this moment I didn't know that I have so many strains again. After work was done I realized like many others that I 'm not so young anymore.
I wasn't on my computer for few days and wondering how you guys managed your garden and posts simultaneously day after day. Maybe you don't have 5 kids and young woman?! Lol.

Ok few pics.

zrascenvrt.jpg

On this garden I put trailer with composted cow manure and probably "composted seeds". I needed to clean it once more. It was hot. Consumed gallon of water in few hours.

vrhnikaposajeno.jpg

Next day after I plant 103 seedlings of tobacco, 18 Jalapeños and 300 black Cuban beans.

This is my garden with 31 wrapper plants. Can you see it?

Something new this year. If goes by plan I will save some water.
Thats it for now. Today I put last 19 seedlings of Little Dutch in the ground.

And for the end wats left...and hope not to be needed...
