Hello,
Greetings from Toronto.
Can anyone here advise me regarding replicating the French cigarette Gitanes? From my understanding Gitanes were produced with a blend of black tobaccos (ordinary Caporal, mild Caporal and Maryland). Maryland is available at Whole Leaf Tobacco and I imagine at other online suppliers, but I'm unable to find "ordinary" Caporal and mild Caporal. Any help with this would be much appreciated.

Belated welcome to the forum. You may wish to scan through the topics in our Index of Key Forum Threads, linked in the menu bar.

Caporal is a specifically French varietal tobacco. I am unaware of any source for either the tobacco or its seed. I suspect that you will need to try a number of dark air-cured tobaccos.

Welcome to the forum. I used to smoke Gitanes, the blue package almost 60 years ago and they were one of my favorites. I lived in Quebec City at the time and they were popular in those days. Now I live in cottage country on the other side of Algonquin Park. If you find out what tobaccos were involved I'd like to make a few for old times sake even though now I smoke only a pipe.

Thank you. I found this online somewhere - Gitanes are made from a mix of black tobaccos (ordinary Caporal, mild Caporal, and Maryland). I haven't been able to find any Caporal anywhere.
