What did you smoke today?

I got home from the Dr. this noon and sat down to enjoy one of my labeled "Striper" ( striped bass ) blend. I'll never make a torcedor as I have yet to smoke one of these that tastes exactly like the last one. They all seem to come out different. I try to match the leaves in every bunch the same but to no avail they all seem to have their own taste. This one was spicier then any other I've smoked. I accompanied the cigar with a cup of tea. Still an enjoyable smoke.

1/2- Meta Fina
1/2 Criollo 98 Ligero
One Sucker binder
and a maduro wrapper

Your just fine, depending on time of day what your have eaten, smoked, or drank, as well as your mood and the ambient weather can all effect the flavor of your cigar. Plus the fact if you bought the tobacco your using at different times you also have the differences in harvest.

I remember you saying that last year Bob. I Do use the long scrap as well but not too much, the bigger pieces I roll Backwoods Smokes with, just the little ones end up in the scrap bag.

Also had a couple packs of Lews Smokers last year. I also had some of the last Puros Indios that were part of the big lawsuit. I thought the Puros were much smoother, but I think they'd been impounded for over five years. Plent of time to smooth out.

I've smoked the Puros Indios Añejados (or something like that) a few years ago. They were a different blend than the Cuba Aliados that I've smoked. And yes, there was a big legal stink between Rothman and Reyes. I don't know (or care about) any of the details. Two prima donas butting heads.

Not today, but a few evenings ago I lit up one of the very first sticks I rolled. It was soft from not being rolled tight enough and smoked a bit wet, but it surprisingly had a decent burn and a nice flavor. It was from the Terroso Profundo kit from WLT: 3 parts Corojo 99 seco, 1 part Criollo 98 ligero, Dominican binder, and corojo wrapper. It was sweet and creamy with a little spice and nuttiness. Having a bunch of fun rolling and really happy with how things are turning out. Just need to be more patient and let them dry out and age a little.

Hooligan that looks and sounds tasty congrats on enjoying one of your own first rolled cigars.
I smoked a new made up blend cigar this afternoon with some of the leaf I don't use much. My leaf stock is getting down there.
I think it could use a little while more time to age. But it was a good smoke to my surprise. Only down fall I found was with the One Sucker binder and Broadleaf wrapper it needed 2 relights.
Blend:
2- Nic Habano Seco
1 1/2 Criollo 98 Seco
1/2 Criollo Ligerio
One Sucker binder
Broadleaf wrapper

I think I'll sit down and wrap a few more of these.

Much thanks Charlie, I'm pretty pleased with my results so far. Using newspaper to "mold" the cigar after the binder and before the wrapper has made them way prettier than they would have been.

To get a more even burn if you wish, try 2 thin seco leaves rolled as a binder under the binder, or as a stand alone double binder. Piloto Cubano Seco was the best, then Corojo or Criollo Seco. Thanks for the nice words!

Looks like you enjoyed yourself. Haven't had a Cohiba in a while. I believe Bob stated somewhere previously, that a regular Cohiba is 6 parts Dominican Seco, 1 part Dominican Liguero.

I don't think I've ever smoked a Cohiba. Just never spent the money for one. But that looks like a great relaxing time with the brew and cigar.
Once a week I have a sip of 2 fingers of Knob Creek Bourbon ( smoked maple ) with 2 cubes, and a cigar.
One cigar I would love to try before I die would be a true aged Cuban.

I'm skeptical of gazillion dollar cigars, but the Behike, if you can get your hands on one, is worth the cost. Dollar for dollar, much more value in that than my wifes hairdo.

Today I smoked a failed roll of Whole Leaf Tobacco 's fire cured wrapper with Criollo and dark air filler. Right now I'm smoking a successfully rolled cheroot of the same wrapper and corojo filler and binder. Success is delicious

They are good cigars IMHO but they are not a value by any measure. That little stick is a 4.3" by 40 ring and it was 9 dollars. Good to have every once in a while but an everyday smoke for sure. The budget used to allow for a larger cigar "chunk" than it currently does so I have a fair number of 10-18 dollar cigars in the Humi that I purchased a couple years back. They are going to be replaced with home rolled after I have smoked them. My tastes have been shifting to the South American cigars anyway specifically Dominican tobacco.
