Gawith Hoggarth Black Twist Sliced, a pre-sliced version of Black Irish X, which is dark fired Virginia with a little Indian dark air cured thrown in.
Said to be "strong". I found it to be full flavored with mild spicy hints, some pleasant earthy and leathery notes, and a subtle malty sweetness in the background. The aroma was similar to most Virginia blends I've had, but perhaps a bit muted. Never got hot. Never bit. Enjoyable all the way down.
The pipe is a Guildhall shape 298.

Lit up a couple pipes today, my two Ascortis. The first was a new-to-me Business Bulldog, and today was my first smoke with it.
I measured out a bowl's worth of Stokkebye PS702, a simple Burley Cavendish, and let it sit out to dry for about 30 minutes before packing and lighting. It burned completely to a powdery ash and had great flavor that was a perfect match with my morning coffee.
Later, I enjoyed some Savinelli Brunello Flake in a Business Billiard, the first Ascorti I purchased back in 2004. In 2005, it suffered a fall and the tenon broke, so the stem is a replacement.
Two great smokers. Flavors came through beautifully, so much so that I wanted to just keep puffing away. I had a hard time being patient and letting them rest.

I've been told that Haunted Bookshop smokes well in a cob, so lately I've been dedicating my Country Gent to the blend. I think there's something to it.

I am getting a few more cobs soon, so I'll have to give that a go. I just tried some HB for the first time last week in a clay and enjoyed it.
I saw this post the other day and found your ashtray to be genius. It inspired me to make one today with an Orlik tin that I just finished off a few days ago.

I forgot to snap a photo, but I enjoyed a bowl of Gawith Hoggarth Black Twist Sliced in a Don Carlos. Not the best idea, really. Those twists are quite potent and that pipe has a fairly large bowl. I think I'll relegate that blend to smaller pipes.
