I didn't get a picture, but today I stopped by my local shop's Savinelli and Peterson pipe show. A nice little Savinelli Sasso 701 follwoed me home, so I started breaking it in with a bowl of home-blended VA/Per "Batch 23". It's one of my attempts to come close to Escudo. Probably not very close, but it's not terrible either.

There are actually two of them I picked up. This morning I’m smoking some Orlik Golden Sliced in the Sasso (right); yesterday was Towers of Antioch in the Saint Nicholas 2026 616 KS. I’m really enjoying both of them. The Orlik has been sitting in a jar for probably two years; the ToA is probably a year old.

Oof. Note to self: Don't smoke OGS until my nicotine tolerance is back up to snuff.

My darling wife finally quit smoking back in April... that's what back surgery and a stroke will do for you. She's having a tough go of it and still misses the cigarettes (I certainly don't) so I do everything I can to not expose her to any smoke. She spent quite a bit of time out on our new covered, screened deck this summer, and as a result I wasn't smoking my pipe out there except on rare occasions. I don't think I've had more than half an ounce of pipe tobacco since spring. My nicotine tolerance level seems to have bottomed out; that little bowl of Orlik was enough to make me a little woozy. The ToA has much less nicotine, so I'll be sticking to that for the time being.

That said, the Orlik is really good if you like a very well behaved Virginia flake. As expected, both of the new pipes are wonderful smokes.

I'm aware that there were a variety of sundials developed and used in ancient Greece. Some of them were very sophisticated.

Thank you for your interest! The achievements of ancient Greece (in this field as well) remain unknown to the general public. On one hand, local politicians deliberately refrain from highlighting them, while on the other, many foreigners are unwilling to acknowledge them, often attributing these accomplishments to other nations instead while at the same time spreading a whole host of lies and slanders about us.

In Greek, it is called "Ora" (pronounced as Hora), ask a young British about ''Hour", a French about "Heure", an Italian about ''Ore", an Spaniard-Portuguese-Brazilian about ''Hora", a Slovenian about "Ura", a Czech about ''Oroloji", a Romanian about ''Oră" etc and i doubt if someone knows that comes from ancient Greek.
