It was good, though it's been long enough since I smoked a straight VA that I was reminded of just how much tongue bite there is if you're not careful! I tend to smoke a little faster than the VA likes, so had to consciously slow down a few times.
The shop owner had a drawing last night for a some tins from his personal stash. Each winner got to pick one from the table. I picked a tin of St. James Flake dated 2019. I'll probably let that age a few more years.

Bright VAs force me to slow down and be patient as well. I usually use them breaking in a new pipe for that reason. Red and dark VAs don't bite so hard.
I think you'll enjoy that St. James flake.

Newminster 400 Navy flake with about 10% WLT Perique added. Nice, tongue bite mostly gone, a little spice in the nose but it’s still mostly the VA you get.
In the background is that previously mentioned tin of St. James Flake, from December of 2018 according to the lot number on the sticker (18277). I’m just debating whether to open it or let it age some more. You’d think after nearly 7 years it will be pretty good. On the other hand, I’ve got LOTS of tobacco - for me at least - so there’s no rush. Maybe I’ll just toss it on the shelf and forget about it for a few more years.

We have an old saying here: ''It's better to chew than to talk" and this applies for persons which don't know almost anything about us and slander our country:
“Put your house in order. Nobody likes scumbags. It doesn’t matter if you make good yogurt, i don’t care. Hurry up. Get up in the morning. Go to work. You get retired very early. I know you have wonderful weather, but it doesn’t matter. That’s part of the problem.”
In fact, the worst words she used didn’t end there, as she then compared Greek citizens to “uneducated pets” who “no one punishes them, like when a dog pees on the carpet.”
But some years latter come here ''officially'' and say absolutely different things trying to flatter us to make business deals with her country.
That's ridiculousness !

What a beauty!
First sample bowl of Balkan White in a calabash. It’s only been pressed a couple days and gently warmed for 5-6 hours in the press, and I’m sure it will only improve with age.

Forgot to snap a photo, but this evening I enjoyed a bit of Samuel Gawith Squadron Leader in a Wessex 612 sandblast (a sort of prince shape). Not bad at all. I'd never had Squadron Leader, and I'm glad to say the bright Virginias were faintly sweet and didn't bite me, the latakia was present but not overpowering, and the orientals gave a nice incense/floral note to the aroma.

Only cats featured in your daily outings Sid. When I was in Athens there were dogs on street corners that our tour guide said were strays that were rehabbed and left to the streets during the day and brought in in the evenings. Is this still done ?
