Tobacco seems to love it! Tomato's too. I didn't have it tested but as they say, The proof is in the puddin. Albany isn't too far from me.
I miss that loamy south georgia soil. Grew stuff good when I lived in Albany.

I wonder about planting amidst the pines if years of needle fall might mean the soil is too acidic; have you had it tested?

Looking better than mine.

Howdy Y'all!

My daughter, hubby and grandkids lived in Leesburg for a couple of years, they always grew a really nice garden down there. Look you said DG, real nice loam and not the hard clay we got up here.

Workhorse - Is the white stuff on the ground the BT & Cyonara? Plants are looking good, they come along just fine.

Hey chuck! No that white stuff is the dirt after it's dry. It's very sandy here when we dry out. The sun was coming through the trees just right to put a haze on the picture. If you look at the ground you'll see where the standing water was after the tropical storm. Cyonara is a liquid that's kind of a gold color, and BT is kind of brownish grey. I probably shouldn't mix them but I do and have never had any problems with it. I like to spray only once when the leaves are dry. They seem to soak up the spray very well that way, and I don't have to make a second trip around. (I'm Lazy)

All y'all guys have beautiful brown or black soil. Here we have greyish white sand to try and grow in. We shove anything we can in to the soil to try and give it some color. LOL
See ya had a small snow storm there  lol plants are looking chipper!

I promise I'll get better pics. I had posted the day before I'd get some up and had a emergency call and I couldn't log on last night without them. LOL. I was thinking, You should change your username to leprechaun because you got a pile of gold at the end of your rainbow. How's that kiln working today?

Today I planted the Zimmer Spanish in the main patch, 43 plants, and cant wait to finish. I lack 7 more plants to finish them out. If todays rain dry's out I'll plant the VA Gold tomorrow then comes the Big Gem. Lots to do this weekend. I also have to build the frame for the shade cloth and plant the Havana k-2 under it.

I made my frame out of EMT and Steel City 4 x 4 boxes. the EMT (1/2") was under $2/length and I had the boxes lying around. Very sturdy, light and quick to ass/disassemble. The only thing I did special was to flatten the end I was driving into the ground. I put up a new section this year. The old stuff has been there two years with no wear or rusting.

Well the rain stopped long enough for me to plant 96 more plants. I now have all the Zimmer Spanish, VA. Gold, & MD B100 in the ground. Some were a little small but with this weather who knows when I'm going to get another chance to plant. The Big Gem aren't big enough nor the Bafra, petite Havana, or Havana K-2. Maybe next weekend?zim span.jpgzim,mdb100,vagold.jpg

Looking at that nice soil I bet the small ones catch up fast if they don't get rained to death. Looking good!

Well, It started raining yesterday and hasn't stopped. I have 6 plants underwater. That's what I get for not planting this patch on hills. Live and learn I guess! At the end of this season I'll have two loads of top soil brought in to raise it for next season.

The rain started at about 3:45 pm today and its still going. My big 330lb. gilt got out today and started pulling up the MD B100, Not eating them just pulling them up! That's ok I'll get the last laugh, Sunday sounds like a good day to put one behind her ear. Next sunday sounds like a good day to have her ribs!

Okay! Now we can deal. Dry pack about 20 pounds of belly and send it up. I'll clean, brine and smoke it and send part of it back to you. :)

pm me how to dry pack. Most of my experience is either skinning, or this one we'll scald, but we always cut rap and to the freezer, but I've never dry packed?
