The last few weeks of very little rain has made the stunted plants take off, like everything was on hold waiting to dry up.

I had the same experience. It was like instead of stunting they went into a dormant period. My VA have been topped down to about 4-5 ft. and my Burley is beginning to bud, they'll go a little taller. The wrapper grow out patch is still stunted but I think that's mainly too much shade and the dirt is hard as a rock now.

Today, more priming of the air cured varieties. Then I do some hoeing in the sucker crop area. It's been a poor year for growing anything around here, but at the close of the season the water has dried up and the plants are growing. If winter will hold off like last year, and the rain stays away I will finish with a good crop.

I'm with you bama, those new starts of mine are in buckets and I need another month and a half for them. Knucks should be shot for saying bad words like frost!
Finally have SR budding. Hope the weather holds for them to finish.

My son has taken horse, goat, rabbit, and chicken manure and filled the middle of the rows of my whole garden. when the tobacco has finished out, he's going to start on the bacca patch. I'm going to cut it in with the disc harrow and then recut it all winter long. All the while he'll be adding more. I'm thinking next year i'll add another 10' x 200' to the patch along the back side strictly for shade grow. I have almost enough cloth to cover the whole thing and if I put it there instead of between the pine rows the needles wont be putting holes in the leaves. We were ordered to put in culverts last week code enforcement came around to each house and dropped the bomb. I called a friend who hauls dirt and it seems after I get my culverts in, my whole planting area is raising a foot higher with new topsoil. I'll have to cut each load in as I get it spread, so I wont loose the manure.

Yep, That's our able government soundly slamming the barn door after the horse has disappeared. Do you have a place to drain the water to?

How are you doin? I figured to let you rest the weekend. I took my tractor when the water was standing and cut a 4' x 3' V ditch along side the road. After that each time the road grader comes out he re does it. Funny he would have never made a ditch if I hadn't done it first.

it's about time your neighbourhood, come into the new century,

culvert's and a dug ditch, will help your area a lot,

a retention pond to hold all that water would be nice also,

..... hell it sounds like next year your bacca wont be under-water,

Has anyone grown Metacomet? This is the weirdest looking tobacco plant I've seen. The leaves are like lettuce all wrinkled on the edges and they are more round. How bout some feedback, bob, sky?
