After rolling them cigars my friends are driving me nuts. They smoke swishers one smokes grape and the other plain, now one wants vanilla extract on his and the other wants plain, but they both say mine are smoother than store bought. I told them they were use to smoking ground up stems and they say bull, so I dared them to empty out the tobacco from a swisher and see if it looks the same, No takers, I don't think they want to know. I'm growing nine rows of shade this year and a lot of new varieties.

Yes, I think I'm getting close. I'll probably die still trying to master the Copenhagen recipe. The trick is the 3yr aging in a hogshead and liquid smoke instead of fire cure.

Why not try a 1 gallon freezer bag inside a 4" piece of plastic drain pipe and a concrete block or two for weight? Perhaps the weight/pressure will speed things up for you. I'll give you the raw ground powder if you need it.

You already did! I think the white oak barrel adds flavor, you know like it does with other stuff. maybe some charred oak strips in the freezer bag in the pipe. You got me thinking john. Hey does the hogshead seal air tight or do they breathe?

Yeah, I know. I was talking more for this kind of experiment. It beats throwing it away (DIRTY words in my book.) Hogshead. Liquid tight for sure but I've got to believe they "breathe" a little. If you think the oak gives flavor why not add a couple of 1/2" X 3" rounds made with a hole saw? If you have a 3 3/4" hole saw you could make the top and bottom of your crude press too. The plastic pipe/baggie/ concrete block(s) combo could sit in a warm spot for a year without too much hassle.

I throw nothing away (my wife tells me all the time) I'm going to start this pipe project today. It takes up no room maybe it'll produce cope.

For the oak flavor, winemaking supply shops sell oak tannin powder so that home winemakers can replicate the barrel aging without barrels. They also have toasted oak chips of varying degrees of toastedness. The powder dissolved in water would speed up your process a lot.

Good thoughts. Thanks Don. Do we want to be careful about adding water? Making white oak charcoal is a piece of cake if that's what you want to try.

I would just use the solution of water and the oak tannin powder like a casing, a light spray then let it dry out. As for the oak chips, I would think you want it toasted rather than charcoal. That way you keep the wood flavor.

Our tractor supply sells half white oak whiskey barrels, I use them for another project I do for a fast oak aging. That's where I get the Ethyl Alcohol from. heheheh I think your right Don with the toasted the oak will impart it's own flavor.

On another note it was a rough day today! I tried to do a couple of jobs today and I can tell you now I'm not the man I was before the back injury! I wish the stupid insurance would loosen the purse strings and approve the surgery. Now I have to go to two other doctors and they have to agree with my doctor before my grievance will be passed. The insurance company's doctor (or so he's called) didn't even look at my folder he just said NO! So please keep the swayback mule in your prayers guys!
