I'm getting a little worried, my seeds aren't sprouting. It's been 7 days and not a single sprout. I looked at them with a jeweler's loupe and nothing doing, not a single root. I normally start seeing activity after 4 or 5 days. I used the same seedling mix and methods as usual. If I don't see any activity by tomorrow, I will reseed with a different variety.
Seed less than 1 year old tends to be quite slow to germinate. Regardless of its age, I would test the seed in a wet paper towel, inside a Ziploc bag, before I tossed it.

Last night I took a close look at the seeds I planted on the 10th and found several seeds with a coating of a white, fuzzy mold, so I decided to dump the tray and start over with a different variety. This morning I cleaned my tray and all the items I use to start seeds, mixed up a new batch of seed starting mix and sowed all 72 cells with One Sucker. I made a few mistakes on the first try due to taking short cuts. First, I used some old seedling mix from last season, second, I used some old water from a jug that had been sitting around for several months that may or may not have had some soluble fertilizer in it. One Sucker germinated really well in the Spring, so I'm hoping this will solve my issues. We'll see.
If the Little Yellow seeds on the paper towel germinate, I may transplant some of them to individual pots because, I really want to try it. It sounds like it would make a really good snus.

The paper towel germination test of the Little Yellow went well. Probably about 70% of the seeds germinated. I gently transplanted 20 of them in my winstrip tray a few days ago. Plus, I started 24 individual 2x2x2 cups and most of them have sprouts also. So, I have about 40 each of Little Yellow and One Sucker sprouts at this time. More than enough, as I am thinking of only growing about 48 plants this fall. Subject to change though.
I'll probably harvest the 6 LD plants in a week or so.
BTW, I mowed the lawn and ran the weed eater this morning. My God, was it hot!!!

I have 96 seedlings total. 41 Little Yellow and 55 One Sucker. If all goes well, I should be able to transplant in late August.
Started prepping my containers yesterday. I put a liner of Visqueen in the bottom of each fabric pot to act as a small reservoir. It's a little bit fiddly, you have to put the mulch in carefully so as to not let the plastic edges fold over flat on the bottom.
Stalk harvested the 6 Little Dutch plants yesterday.
I'm still undecided about how many plants I want to grow. I've been thinking 24 of each would be plenty. My wife said to plant all of them, but she doesn't have to do any of the work. She's one of those types of people that loves to tell others what to do and when asked to help with the labor says, "It's much easier if you do it."

The seedlings in the winstrip tray were started 17 days ago under an LED light inside a cabinet. I have the light plugged into a timer that is set to stay on for 15 hours a day. The ones in the square pots were started 10 days ago on the Lanai, they receive a few hours of screened sunlight in the morning and a few more in the afternoon. A few pics of my cabinet setup.
Little Dutch are coloring up okay.
I have 58 containers filled with mulch, ready to go. In the next few days, I'll setup my weed barrier and space the containers on it and wet the mulch down with fertilizer solution. Should be able to transplant from the tray in about 2 weeks.

Mowed the lawn and set up my containers today. It was brutally hot, then a brief thundershower came through and made it slightly less miserable. I swear to goodness, I'm cutting back on the number of plants I grow next fall. Spring setup is not so bad.
This has been a weird rainy season, we're about a foot below normal for this time of year.

Allright, I admit it, I did steal those classified documents........... Oh sorry, forgot who I was for a minute. I do admit to enjoying growing tobacco, it's a very rewarding hobby, I just don't enjoy the extreme heat this time of year.
The man gets 3 crops per year and complains about the heat…..

Transplanted my seedlings to the containers this morning. It's supposed to be mostly cloudy today with a high of 91f. Yesterday we had a record high of 98f, 2 degrees higher than the previous record for that date. The lows at night have been around 80f and very steamy. The "feels like" temperatures have been around 115 during the hottest part of the day. I just included those tidbits of information for a few of the members who enjoy chafing me for complaining about the heat.

I'm in north florida with similar Temps and real feel. I completely understand! I'm in the panhandle. We lovingly call it the armpit of Florida because it's hot n sweaty like an armpit!

This light is dimmable from 60 to 150 watt, I have it adjusted somewhere toward the middle range to lower the heat output. My cabinet is 22"X11", just large enough to fit one 1020 tray inside. Right on. I have some HLG boards that I use in my tent. They are an older style that I bought back in 2018. I think they are called Quantum Boards. I have 4 in my 5x5 tent, with a light mover, and when at 100% they pull about 500W from the wall. Supposedly equivalent to 1000W HPS or MH. All I know is that HLG makes a nice product and seem to be a good company.
A year or so ago I looked at upgrading to the Rspec like you have. I called HLG and they said that I wouldn’t see a major increase in performance, and recommended I keep what I have. You have to love an honest company that isn’t always looking for a sale, but who also look out for their customers.
