Yo Yo - So if i pick up something like this from facebook market place do you think i could use it to flue cure tobacco or ferment tobacco in. I have been finding some oak chests, dressers, cabinets.

These are all free to $15 - well within my budget.

You'd have to seal off the open cracks and maybe even insulate it.
Also, being wood, I'd think it could possibly swell and crack.
An old refrigerator is what many of us use and works quite well.

The cabinet in the photo can be easily converted into a nice humidor. Line the interior with plastic (stapled), to prevent warping, Cork seals or stick-on gasket.

I think attempting to use it as a kiln would destroy it. Forget about flue-curing in it.

Hows your trash can tek working? Im considering that in about 60-90 days or so if you still see it as a good viable solution.

The Trash Can Cozy was a demonstration of the minimal requirements for a kiln/flue-cure chamber that will function. Those folks who have read the thread on the subject know that it died several years ago. It was never intended as an example of what anyone should build.

The technology works, but the shape is inefficient, the size is inadequate for most growers, and the can will rust out relatively quickly. I would suggest using your time, effort and money to build a box kiln, like the Endoskeletal kiln.

Your Trash Can Cozy worked pretty well as I recall. Some nice looking tobacco came out of it.

Yeah i have seen some old fridges for around $25
I see free ones on craigslist every day. There is a big dead upright freezer sitting under my carport waiting for a ride to the dump. But Bob says I must build a kiln so I haven't hauled it off yet.

Sorry, can you explain a little more for us noobs, please.

The concentration of total dissolved elements in the water is 1432ppm?

What is "ec"?

EC is the electrical conductivity of the water - plants need between 0.1 to 0.3 - i contacted the manufacture and they said i should actually lower it, you want around 0.1 or 0.2 for newer plants and transplants.

The concentration of total dissolved elements: this is a part per million scale of how many nutrients are in your water circulating through the system. I was told i should lower it down to about 800-1000. I did that today.

Testing water out of my tap gives me a 165ppm. and ec of 0.03

tested out of a PUR water filter is pretty much the same - 162ppm of dissolved solids and still a 0.03ec

anything below 0.1ec creates a nutrient lockout, same with anything above 0.5

Here are images before i fixed it today

reading below is a little high

the reading below is 0.278 (not bad)

overall test of water shows quality is pretty good.

Post a photo of the front of that (colorimetric) water quality test strip jar, so I can see the name and brand, etc. How much do those cost?
