Just gonna post stuff here for insight from you all and to hold myself accountable. Hopefully all goes well, seeds just arrived, still tilling and composting the land but will start to try and get the little seeds going td wish me luck.
24 hours seems excessive, especially if you're using a lighting source stronger, or more complex than florescent shop lights.I've just been giving then 24hr light until they sprout. Lmk if I'm doing ok.
Just using these regular long lights in my garage plus 1 led. Not very strong or hot light. Just thinking about keeping it simple since I don't have some sort of timer for my lights. I plan to move them outside for a more regular schedule once they actually start sprouting. Let me know if that's acceptable or if I should Def change my lighting setup? Here's a picture of the shirazi taking off even more td.24 hours seems excessive, especially if you're using a lighting source stronger, or more complex than florescent shop lights.
I plan on it, I just worry about pests getting them early and or wind if they aren't rooted well enough. Starting to see the tiniest bit of green on the shirazi tn so if you guys think it's wise I'll move them outside. I'm probably worrying too much and babying them lol.If you’re in Fl then I would just put the seed trays outside and let the sun do its magic. Just make sure they don’t dry out.
I'm not sure a hundred or more to account for loss between 5 varieties, I plan on moving them to cells but I am unsure are they at the stage to transplant now or should I wait?I would move each seedling to individual cells in 1020 trays. One per cell. How many plants do you intend to grow?
I was worried they'd be too fragile so small but I'll get some tweezers and give it a goI just transferred to individual cells a bit beyond this stage with Small Stalk Black Mammoth and Trabzon-2: no loss. The first leaves were open, but that’s it.
When they are small, they are kinda easier to transfer: less root to be disturbed. I just scooped out the best, most isolated sprout with the handle of a spoon, taking about a 1/4tsp of the soil with it- no transplant shock, no losses.
But, don’t throw out the extra sprouts until a week or so, to make sure you won’t have to start extra seeds.
As for where to put them? I keep mine inside- a light breeze wiped out a bunch of sprouts on my windowsill a couple of weeks ago. Dried them right out.
Awesome they look good, not too different from mine. The others are sprouted now after last night so I'm gonna start filling up the rest of the cells this evening. Thank you guys for all the help thus far. This what mine look like, today.
They were transferred from an over crowded pot over the course of the last week. (Small Stalk Black Mammoth)View attachment 51317
