I believe the trick is for the water to not be high in chlorine or minerals and possibly as neutral pH as possible.

A gallon jug of distilled water is only a couple of bucks at the grocery store and lasts a long time if used for hydrating leaf.

Quite pleased with how these tasted. All US tobaccos with a strip of Carmen Cubita.
A little creation… I’ve been working with a couple of factory’s for a while now on dialing in some blends. One of the factories sent me some leaf to blend with. Some 43 & 48 ring gauges. 1x 50 ring consisting of short fill.

A simple, no frills, "long filler" cheroot. I used my Trabzon #2 sun cured lugs for filler and binder. Currently resting, rolled in a paper towel, as it comes down in case for smoking.
A bit rough around the edges, but not bad for my first. Good elasticity, albeit thin. As a result, the is 1/2 inch of the 2nd binder tore. I also neglected to make sure the binder was bottom side up, so the veins are visible.

My small cigarillo puro after trimming and a 24 hour rest.
This was rolled too tight. It is also too high of a case to smoke. I'll let it dry out some more and see how it goes. I still think it's a good job for my first time.

By my 10th cigar, I could usually get the draw correct. By my 30th cigar, they began to look pretty good. (Motor memory and fingertip intelligence.)

No! Distilled was is the only way to go. Any other is an no no.
I respectfully disagree. Sanitation is the key ingredient in water.

Rolled my first 2 cigars using purchased leaf. This is much harder than you guys make it look
Nice sticks. Initially, it took me about 10 cigars, before I could reliably roll with adequate draw. After about 30 cigars, the process felt easier. After about 100 cigars, they were consistently presentable as gifts.
