2 years ago I got a load of horse manure that killed my garden plants. I had to dig out the dirt and replace it in the garden beds.
So be careful where you get yours from, I didn’t know the guy but he thought the hay hadn’t been treated he bought.
I don’t know if I had to replace the dirt, but I figured I better to be safe.
Luckily (?) I as of strong back and weak mind so I did it all with a shovel and wagon behind my mower.

Thank you, Plinsc! I'm sorry to hear that happened. The horse manure is either coming from my parents horses or ours. So I know where the manure is coming from. The plan was for sure to use a couple year old composted manure and there was even talk about maybe even somehow burning the manure. My wife found a Youtube video (I think) where the person recommends burning it for the gardens etc. They even showed the final results and from what I understand was very impressive.

Not sure other than using it for potted plants but I also have a culture of red wiggler worms. Could use their old soil/worm castings.

Wallace aka knucklehead: noticed in your grow log that you have an awesome old wooden stove. My wife has been dreaming about getting one. Just curious if you by chance know of anyone that has one that might be selling or that doesn’t want it anymore?

That was in an old smokehouse belonging to my great grandparents. I suppose it was moved in there once they went electric and the smokehouse was turned into a storage shed. I would start wandering around antique shops and making inquiries. Start networking and get the word out about what you are looking for. Ask your friends to keep an eye out and ask their friends.

There are several on ebay but they are all local pickup no delivery (they are heavy!). Keep an eye out and maybe you will see one within driving distance.

That’s really cool. Wish my family had one around. Sounds good, I will for sure network/ask around and check out eBay. Thank you very much, Wallace!

Wallace: I also noticed on your grow log that you put the ready mud leaves into your pipe and smoked it right away, so they are ready to smoke and don’t need to be aged?

Picked my first harvest of the year, Cuban Criollo 98.

Was also wondering if the Prilep and Corojo leaves are ready or if they need some more time? I just realized I might not have taken a picture of the Prilep but they have the bumps in the leaves (alligator skin). They don’t seem to have the yellow tips yet though.

I also noticed that unfortunately have a good number of stunted plants despite the fact I spaced them further apart better this year. Guess I either need to space them a bit more or something else?

Although you could harvest them now, and expect decent results, I would wait a few more days to a week, before harvesting. The "only" risk to waiting longer is physical damage to the leaves by weather, you, a stray dog, etc.

The severe weather front across Missouri now, appears to be moving generally south-southeast, toward Birmingham, AL, and will miss you. But check your local forecast.

Thank you very much, Bob!

Sounds good. I checked my weather and sounds like just rain late tonight, tomorrow, and then potential severe weather Sunday night. I would rather wait a bit to harvest but with the potential severe weather should I go ahead and harvest the corojo?

Thank you very much, Bob!

I went ahead and harvested the Corojo leaf last night. They are predicting severe weather tomorrow evening. The leaves look great. Very few with tiny holes. Hanged it today. Nice big leaves. Looking forward to it eventually being a wrapper. Also, took an update photo of the field. Sorry about the weeds. Tried my best to manage it and then went on trip. Weeds grew…well like weeds and haven’t had a chance to take care of it. Humidity tonight was looking around 70% in garage where I have the leaves hanging.

So, if it rained yesterday I should wait to harvest leaves (if they are ready) for 2 days? So if it doesn't rain tomorrow I can harvest them? There's a 30% chance of scattered rain tomorrow so it might have to be Sunday.

I have also noticed that on some of my Cuban criollo leaves the margins are green and starting to dry but the center is yellowing. Is this normal or what should I do?

Ok, sounds good. Thank you very much, Bob!
Here are the pictures of the leaves with some pictures of some flowers.
Also was curious do I need to bag the Prilep flowers if I’m not going to collect the seed?

Those leaves appear to be flash-drying green, which indicates that the humidity is too low. Once they dry green, there is not much that you can do with them.

For Orientals (like Prilep) that I am not bagging for see, I always just allow them to blossom in the open.

That’s crazy, according to my hygrometer it says around 70%. Is it too late now or could I move them to a higher humidity area?

Ok, sounds good. Thank you very much, Bob!

Is the hygrometer in the room with the leaf?
