Yer you must be happy with all those healthy seedlings, chippy pottle prob has a bit more growing room than the polysteryne cups that i'm using. Was wondering about repoting them but it would be alot of work for prob only another couple of weeks till they go into the ground.

I have 60 + Virginia Gold seedlings in cups at the moment that are not going to fit into my layout, you are the closest to me and it seems a waste to just dump them if you would like, could probably pot up some Con Broad, Con Shade and Havana if you want. Anyway up to you.

You guys are making me wish I was planting again. Guess it's poor policy to wish your life away.

I am getting the last of the color cured leaf down and tied into hands. The first batch will be out of the kiln in a few days and after slight mods (better insulation) the second batch will go in.

Yes john they are 1/2 liter cup's as i found that the poly cup's i was useing early on the plant's were getting root bound.Plus the price was right i can purchase 50 off these cup's fore 2 dollar's.I use a bit more potting mix but as i use my own compost mixture this is not a problem.I feel any restriction in a plant early stage of root development.has major ramiiccations latter on.

Interesting. My experience is quite different. For years I made my own seed pots from newspaper and a bit of white glue. They were ~ 2.5" round and 4" deep. Being made from newspaper I just put the whole lot in the ground at planting time and the paper mulched into the ground as the plant grew.

Then I got some seedlings from my commercial friend. When I pulled them from the starting tray they were very root bound. Hell, they were free so I stuck them in the ground. They grew just fine and I haven't made a paper pot since. I can see no difference in the final plant.

I start plants in peat cups. If you dont' tear them open you get a root ball. You can see this at the end of the season when the stalk is pulled up.

Colin, your soil looks excellent. A very nice job of tilling too. Should be an ideal bed for planting about anything you want to grow, if the fertility is right.

Hi Colin, I somehow missed the photos of your plowed field. Man that is some fine looking soil. Your plants are looking real good and you have a good combination of varietys.
