Funnily enough, the scientist that first found this virus, when screening blood for yellow fever, is still alive and well. This issue may be somewhat reminiscent of the first introduction of AIDS - not necessarily in the public eye when it was confined to Africa, but suddenly of great concern when it was found in Western Countries. As of September, I understand that there have been 3,000 Ebola cases worldwide. AIDS,. SARS, bird flu, swine flu - each of these have been picked up by media, hyped up to hysterical proportions. The term for it now is 'Fearbola'.....I particularly like one of the symptoms being that you are so afraid of Liberians that you refuse to return your library books.....

I'm very comforted that the mainstream media is hyping up this story. It's very likely this will be the biggest non-story of 2014. All you have to do is know their agenda...

This story will be used for yet another power-grab by the feds

That was Rahm said that? Huh! Here I thought it was an old Josef Goebbels quote.

Well, live and learn, I guess.

I have to agree with what FmGrowit said, we have it all over here. it kind of reminds me of the Book, State of Fear The press and government love to max things up or try to pull your pants down. In the next few weeks there will be something else to get us talking about. It is funny how the human mind thinks what ever we are told or educated is the truth!!.

x10. And not just the feds, but most western governments. It is happening here in Europe, as well. There is also the added 'perk' of directing public attention away from economic difficulties, loss of civil liberties, etc., by overplaying the fear card. But I think that governments and media have different agendas in hyping this - the media basically do it for the profit motive - sadly tabloid and sensational journalism is what sells.

In all fairness...I think Churchill said it too.

What profound cynicism.

Cynics are under-rated. They were after all the founders of democracy.

What we're witnessing is a type of social Munchausen disease. In a couple of weeks there will emerge a resolve to the ebola scare. His efforts will be reported as nothing less than "miraculous". Just in time for a major national election in three weeks.

On another thread in this forum, someone was talking about a big secret tobacco tax hike as reported in The Blaze. I went to look, and found this there:
http://www.theblaze.com/stories/201...icial-says-we-could-see-per-week-by-december/
Of course, these sites are pretty darned questionable, but it is interesting to see that they report predictions of a possible 10,000 cases per week, by December! Be scared!!
I must admit, I don't listen to the news anymore.

And while the analysis of 'why' governments or journalists act as they do, may be cynical, certainly the observation of what they do (without the 'whys') is not. The cynicism arises when you feel that their actions are manipulative and motivated by goals not readily apparent.

I haven't read up on Ebola or press releases from the CDC, but I don't understand some items brought to attention now. I guess it might be from watching the news and the hype they like to put out on all their news items.
Why would they allow any of the Nurses and Doctors treating that first man diagnosed in Dallas, TX that died travel around the country with out having them quarantined for a period to make sure no one contracted Ebola from contact with him. Maybe it's just me.

Next the gas and oil prices will go up because of it.

Actually they are going down...... Is this an attempt to ease the minds of stressed out WORKING Americans by diverting their attention from the current situation? Surely not..... Maybe the "powers that be" are smarter than we thought....

They (gas prices) don't go up until just around Thanksgiving time. If you look as gas price trends, they actually follow more of a yearly trajectory, and are quite predictable.

There is currently a glut of oil on the world market. Venezuela wants OPEC members to reduce their output, in order to increase the price, but other members refuse (at the moment).

The last time this happened in the early 80's, the Saudis tried to support the price by reducing output and got burned pretty bad. I don't think any of them trust each other, just enjoy it while it lasts.
