Re: Leverhead's 2013 T Patches

It's allot of plants and work, I really don't know how much tobacco it will yield. The Virginias have more room between the rows this year. The Turkish/Oriental section is a roll of the dice to see what I end up with using traditional row and plant spacings. I'm pretty skinny and I'm hoping my feet aren't too big. I should know in a month or so if I've made a big mistake. The up side, I should end up with allot of varieties to blend with. The down side is I have to take out every other row for space to work and still end up with a bunch of fresh seed to go around. I don't see it as a big gamble. I guess to answer your question, smoke it. Maybe if I have enough, with a little help from my friends.

I'm pretty sure One Sucker is it's own distinct variety. For cigarettes, TN 86 and TN 90 are excellent Burley choices. If you are concerned about time, which I think you have plenty of, given your location, you can order seedlings from BigBonner ready to go into the ground. $1.50 - $2.00 per plant depending on variety. Don't hold me to this, but I think Burley is $1.50 ea. After my first year starting inside, I'm going to order all my personal plants for cigarettes from Larry next year, and just start my taste, sample and seed grow outs inside. When you get to trying several varieties, there's just so much clutter all over the house. I stole the idea from Deluxestogie's 2013 grow blog Post #1. http://fairtradetobacco.com/showthread.php?2108-deluxestogie-Grow-Log-2013 I've seen pictures of Larry's seedlings after delivery, they look better than what I worked my tail off for this year.

One sucker is considered a Dark Air Cured variety.

It's finally all in! Give or take, about 1000 plants. It took about 35 hours to get it all planted. In the foreground, the Southern Beauties have been in 3 weeks and are looking good. Beyond, is a long list of Turkish, Semi-Orientals and a few Hungarians.

Izmir Ozbis is in the foreground and Smyrna #9 is beyond it. There's about 140 plants in a 4' X 14' (1.2 m X 4.3 m).

I had a ground sucker in the seedling tray!

You're going to have to get small to get between the rows! Remember the Steve Martin album, Let's Get Small?
