A lot of plants and beautiful collection of oriental varieties! Also the place to grow seems very rich. Good luck!
Is the haircut neccesary? You do this in any variety?

Thanks! This is the first time I've done it (clipping). DeluxeStogie did a post about it. It's not hurting anything as far as I can tell, they're growing like crazy. I can't imagine not doing this with a 200 cell tray. I'll take pictures of the roots later in the week when I plant them.

Clipping is optional. The idea is to prevent the fastest-growing individual plants from shading their neighbors. This allows all of them to grow at a similar pace. You can do this with any varieties.

So that's only for the plants are in cell trays. It has no use when the plants grow in individual small pots right? Does not make the plants stronger?

For better or worse, 208 Southern Beauties are in the ground today! The roots didn't have any trouble finding the bottom of 4" deep cells.

It wasn't as bad as last year, I really thought it went well. I had the rows staked out yesterday after work. This is the real reason I waited until Saturday. It took more time to get everything planted, but I had a hell of allot more fun!

Nice looking plot leverhead. Planting goes a lot faster when you have good help. :)

Southern Beauty grows fast, matures early, and produces some nice large light colored leaves. It does very well here in the northern latitudes too. It's great in a cigarette blend and probably would make a nice wrapper.

Thanks Guys! It's the same variety that's in my avatar. Now all I have to do is flue-cure some that lives up to it's name. That and get all the Turkish/ Orientals planted.

Man, if I had that amount of great help I'd plant thousands of seedlings :) Just kidding, 208 plants in a day is really a hardwork for me. They're looking great. Congrats !

The tilling is what wore me out! My Dad knew somebody with a broken tractor mounted tiller. I fixed it for him with the understanding that I could use it a couple of times a year. It's 5' (1.5 m) wide, I "tested" it and did the whole patch in under an hour. No more bull riding for me!
