Unfortunately i have to report it does not work as is.
1st problem is too much space between roller and bed. It is fine rolling forward but when you try to back the lever up tobacco roll slips under the roller.

2nd potential problem is the mat thickness. Will reconsider after roller adjustment mechanism is made

3rd may be the very slight flex in the bed. I should be able to solve this with some braces from the frame to the arch.

well back to workshop when i get a chance. Hopefully a success story in the near future.

(ps @deluxestogie do you know why the images flip when i upload them? Should i change them to upside down in my phone first?)

Yeah, thats a little wider then mine. so nice. the only thing that comes to mind is bolting it down. That should get some work.

the mat itself is 12” wide. I dont see me rolling more than an 8-9” so it should give me ample width

i put the 1” square tube like pontoons on the base with the thought that i could run 3/4” inside the pontoons and just clamp those to the work table

Digital cameras as well as phone cameras contain position sensors that encode the orientation of the photo into the image file. When you subsequently view it, your device automatically rotates the image to display it correctly--for you, but not necessarily for other devices.

On my PC, I use the free photo editing software, XnView, to fix rotation, then save the file. I don't know what software is available for a telephone.

My phone doesn't seem to screw up often. However if it does, all I have to do is click edit, and change it. I crop every photo I post because they are usually too large. I imagine if there was some glitch, ie the phone only correcting it for display, that the editing software I use to crop would save it in the new orientation.

Within XnView, if I inspect the EXIF data of an image (in this instance, a photo of a cheese casserole that I baked), then I can see what device shot the photo, and every single setting on the camera. Below is about one fifth of the available info:

EXIF_partial.JPG

XnView can remove all the data, if you are paranoid. To my knowledge, EXIF does not include your underwear size.

if i edit the picture on my phone and click save with no changes apparently it works.

while i am familiar with exif data i have never had this problem with forums stripping the orientation data before. i do shoot with 2 professional bodies to earn money, hobby stuff im simply too lazy to take out a big camera and use a computer. Thats work haha

anyways ill make a point of resaving photos to lock in the orientation in the future.

FTT's current forum software is XenForo. The previous forum software was VBulletin. The latter did not exhibit this problem, while the XenForo does. I suspect it has to do with "improvements" in the EXIF "standard" over the last decade. As a result, many posts on this forum that are more than a few years old display incorrectly rotated photos.

That sounds really good. I wonder if your mat is stiff enough or not stretchy. it looks spongy. I think we have to pick a direction to travel.

mat replaced, and with adjustable pivot points it was easy to adjust for the new thinner mat.
It does work now ok, i can go back and forth. The old vinyl one did have too much sponge

probably going to scrap this one and start fresh with a heavy duty bed. Now i have a working model to go from.

It is working pretty decent now. Its and outdoor fabric and has no stretch. Unfortunately it does unravel on one side a bit but its what i had here and im not close to any cities. Fine tuning the pivot placement give me a pretty good smooth roll. Attached is the close up of the adjuster
I still need to clean up the adjuster components and repaint. I will probably throw in a few bed supports to improve solidness since im repainting anyways.
Still think i will start a new unit from scratch with a heavier duty bed. Mainly for improvements in final aesthetic quality since this one switched gears a few times nowA2B1CD39-5C9B-420D-A944-E6FF73CCE2DD.jpegCF87D7DE-40E2-48E5-936A-98D34D843214.jpeg

An easy way to add greater stability to the bed is to narrow its width (shorter doll length). 8 inches should accommodate any cigar.

Bob
Agreed. The next build will utilize more of @MarcL measurements

another key i noticed is moving pivot and bed forward in the frame so it is not centered. This gives more space in the loading area when the arm is pulled back

Thanks @MarcL

dont know how far behind id be without your help!!!

i admit i was a little hard on my first build so far. It is actually working quite well once I carefully watched the foot operated video you posted. Using a plastic card to get the binder started was a game changer.
So user error was for sure a factor, also testing with scrap and very small cigarello size rolls was a mistake. Once i moved up a few ring sizes it rolled beautifully.
I will still make use of these measurements on a new build for the cleaner aesthetics. I do like the convenience of the table top style so im going to stick with that just because i can put it away when not in use.

Nice. admiration for you I have. I'd be getting all in the way over there. I would have a shop.

In the plastic card video, she dips out of the shot a bit but, notice she starts with the filler in place, sets the first binder at an angle, corner tucked in the foot end of filling trough, rolls the binder then, back in the trough it goes and then what they call the first wrapper is applied. Back in the trough it goes and for some reason, tucks the corner of the paper to the head end and, rotates once to be able to tuck the edge of the paper under with the plastic card.

In my last posts I have been trying to relay the geometry on the in-table design.
