Hi, I got a question...I made a batch of Snus but the texture is really not great. It doesn.t stick well together. I don't know where I made a mistake...I don't know if it's because it's to wet, to dry...need more cooking (4 days of cooking)? I really don't know...Water bath 4 days at 80C, PG add, Sodium Carbonate, I follow a receipe but the texture is not what it's suppose to be... more time in the fridge maybe? The taste is not bad (maybe a little too much aroma) but why it doesnt stick together. (sorry for my english)DSC_0177.JPGDSC_0176.JPG

Welcome to the forum. Feel free to introduce yourself in the Introduce Yourself forum. We do have some experienced snus makers on the forum who may be able to answer your question.

Would help if you post the recipe you used, so can see quantities. Going to guess it's too dry

18.3 gm tabac
28gm eau
3.20gm de sel
1.44gm sodium carbonate
0.5gm de pg

Final snus was 32-33 gm, something like that. I read somewhere that the final product was suppose to be 2.2-2.5 x the initial so I add a little bit a whiskey like I want to do, a little bit more PG and little bit of water. Maybe I didn't add enough water at the end?!

I wonder, removing the salt, what this would be like in a pipe.

Assuming gm=g, ingredients add up to 51.44g, which should = mass final snus, but you state 32-33g. Something is missing, or I'm missing something.

Need to see the whole recipe, not just what you put in it: if you're letting ferment for 2 months under cheesecloth, this would account for the moisture loss, etc..

My recommendation is , be very precise when measuring the amount tobacco and water , check consistency before second ” cocking” if it’s feel’s a bit to dry add a few extra drops of water , and write notes of the whole process to adjust process to your satisfaction
