Nice, you got the dust off your chamber? Looks like you will be using it before long. Your patch looks great.

Chamber need a few tweaks to be ready, based on what I learned last year. Better door Seal among them. Had some issues with keeping humidity up At higher temps.

My three big rows, silver river, African Red, and Crillo black, show no sign of budding, so will get a final shot of fertilizer tomorrow.

That's a lot of lugs. Nice size Too. Mine are shot to hell been yanking them out with the suckers.
How did you keep them off the black plastic. I know you put dirt around when transplanting, it must have been a lot?
The Big Three Look Nice, No buds Yet. Your Lucky all mine have budded in the survivor area of the patch.

My lugs (bottom 3 leaves) should have been good leaves. A few days after planting, the leaves that should have been lugs were badly Sun scalded, leaving most plants with just a growth bud and no leaves.

SR was a late maturing plant last year, so expected the way it is growing. Crillo black is v very similar so I expected similar results.

African Red is new to me, and a star performer so far, packed with big closely spaced leaves and just keeps growing. Proof will be in the smoking, but this will probably become my primary flue cure variety.

Nice looking plants there DG.
Last year my Silver River took 95 days for the first bud to appear on a row of a hundred plants! And those plants came from seed I saved from the "early bloomers" from the year before. It was 110 days before I could say there were at 50% bloom. The Criollo Black should bloom 3 weeks or more ahead of the Silver Rivers. Same with the African Red. They should all be in bloom around 80 days. That is if they follow the same pattern there as they do here. :D

Thanks all. There are several under performing varieties hidden out there too, no where near perfect; but they are not as nice to share pics of.

Well, I wanted to mostly air cure this year but after priming lugs Friday, our normally humid summer air gave me a scare and dropped to 50%; not wanting to chance green leaf the Flue Chamber got a hasty dusting out and is currently in use as a "climate control chamber". 90 deg and 80-85% humidity, normally good air curing numbers. Once the leaf has colored I will remove it and hang dry naturally. Damn if our crazy weather is going to be the cause of green dried leaf.

It's 38% here right now. I'm going to open the shop doors tonight and see what the night time humidity is to get an idea of the running average.

Climate control is working well. Green is almost gone. Another day or so and they can finish as air cured.14047881613770.jpg

One of my disappointments, sacred cornplanter has failed to impress.View attachment 11791
Here they would be ahead. They will take off in a run for the sun soon. I think they look great. Different types for different times. Good job and nice haul so far. Mine are in the start mode now. So give them a little time- You will need it for Your kiln time in. Mad-
