burley and virginia sprouted nicely oriental only 10% there was moisture inside the bag where the seeds arrived.1000003084.jpg1000003085.jpg1000003083.jpg1000003089.jpg created waterig system out of thrashbags tape and mophandels. only worry is how the tiles underneath like it if my thrasbags leak and water stays underneath for long periods of time.1000003092.jpg

To my eyes, based on the color and wattage on the label you may want to arrange things to get them closer to the plants. Based on the pictures it looks like they are 16"-18"+ above them. I think how you currently have it may be ok early on but not ideal as the seedlings get bigger.

In my experience with LEDs, 50w panels with evenly spaced diodes need to be at 6" - 12" to provide ideal light levels. It is hard to judge well from pictures but it looks roughly like one of those lights would cover one of your square trays with ideal light levels. A rule of thumb I use for panels is that they typically max out covering an area 1.5x their size. e.g., a 12"x12" panel can cover an 18"x 18" area.

They look great! I will be moving to a location in a similar latitude as you (Alaska) in the next two years and am curious how my plants will do. I would say if they are growing well for you in your location, they will grow well in Alaska as well! I believe your summers are probably a bit warmer than ours though.

can vinegar interfere whit fermentation process? been doing some test runs whit fermentation and developed some mold, i killed the mold whit vinegar just by putting couple drops in the small container and letting it waporice and spred to the leaves that way. now i been wondering could i use vinegar to not have to worry about mold even if the fermentation temps and moisture is not ideal. After couple days the vinegar oudor was gone and only smal hint was left when smoking the leaf. I would like to know if there is some ways people pulletbroof against mold while fermenting. Im doing the fermentation test runs inside the compost it is warm but the oudor is not the best thankfully it hasent seepeth thru the plastic container yet.

...(b)ulletbroof against mold while fermenting

The only way I know of, other than handling and shuffling and inspecting each leaf daily, is to maintain the kiln temp above 123°F, to prevent the vegetative growth of mold.

In the past, when I noticed some mold forming on some hanging (not yet fully cured) leaf, near the central vein, I sprayed just that area of the leaf with vinegar. That killed the mold. Later on, when the leaf had fully cured, the area that had been sprayed with vinegar was a different (lighter) color than the unsprayed parts of the same leaf. My conclusion is that the vinegar (acetic acid) has a definite impact on the curing process, and likely also on later fermentation.

hung first jellowish bottom leaves to dry in the tracktor barn. hope they start to dry well and if not i figure out why before hunging upper leaves.
I see you're placing those leaves out of reach of children ;).

(Although, about what I know regarding kids living on a farm, nothing is truly out of reach for them :p)
