and the pendulum doth swing.
I remember that from the chilis etc i grow. Dont think they are as energetic when they get going so this surprised me quite a bit. especially the stems have thickened up significantly. When a plant grows roots, it hardly grows upward, then it starts to grow very quickly.
What is the leaf count per variety? That's more important than how tall the plants get at harvest time. Those plants have very closely spaced leaves, if your leaf count is right you are going to have a normal harvest. They also still have some more growing to do. They look great.Scratch that its flowering time. which i guess means i need to quicken up getting the uv bulbs and that i can probably save the other 2 plants still in small pots that i almost discarded.

one of the criollo 98 (bottom right) in front has 8 big leaves and a total of 16 including the top ones that are still growing, im not counting the 2 closest to the bud. The back right one looks the same but i havent counted it. Altough the bottom 2 leaves look a bit smaller than the ones directly above em.What is the leaf count per variety? Great news. Thanks for the kind wordsIt looks like you are right over the target. The plants look great.
Commercial growers top the plants when 50% of the field is showing at least one flower. Fair Trade Tobacco Channel on Youtube. The buds had stretched a bit more this morning so i topped the plants as close to the buds as i could.
might have topped them a bit early then. I did find some research indicating that you loose yield by waiting until flowers opened hence why i topped them earlier.Commercial growers top the plants when 50% of the field is showing at least one flower. Fair Trade Tobacco Channel on Youtube.

that would be helpful indeed. its gonna be interesting to see how it turns out. I probably will wait with topping the second batch ive got growing to see the difference.Topping starts the clock ticking on leaf maturation. In commercial growing, in which all the tobacco will be harvested at the same time, topping synchronizes maturation. For my home growing, I usually wait for the stalk of the bud head to elongate, since this also allows the entire stalk to elongate. This increases the separation between leaf nodes all the way down the stalk, making leaf priming easier. This also makes identifying and removing suckers at leaf nodes easier.
