It seems you can still get those. Rolando Reyes made in addition to the Cuba Aliados General, the Puros Indios The Chief and, a Cienfuegos version. All 18 in. X 66. It's really the go to biggest long ash contest stick still.
Before anyone rushes out to purchase (or..gulp!...roll) one of these baseball bats, I can't help but comment a bit on the deficiencies of such a huge cigar.

  • Cosmetically, an 18" cigar usually reveals that two wrappers were required to reach from foot to head. (Looks like two Lego cigar blocks stuck end-on.)
  • It takes about 5 good puffs for smoke generated at the lit foot to make it to your mouth. After such a long journey through the rest of the filler, it has lost some of its attractive aromas. (Tastes like smoking a cigar through a hookah.)
  • Even with small cigars, there is a slight air leakage through the leaf, as well as past the overlaps of the binder and wrapper. There is so much surface area on the oversized cigars that it actually seems leaky. (May collapse a lung.)
  • 18" cigars are not inconspicuous. (You'll look like you've put a bicycle tire pump in your mouth.)
  • It takes a looooong time to smoke one. (You should really get a life.)
  • No known ashtray will accommodate one of these cigars. (Keep a cinder block handy, in case you want to set it down for a moment.)
  • The demands such a cigar places on your mouth may be beyond the call of duty. (Your tongue will feel like camel dung in the Najib.)
If you do purchase one, it does have its benefits:
  • You can save the rediculously large box to show interested relatives, friends and neighbors. (Your grandchild can store a convoy of little cars inside it.)
  • ...I cant' think of any other benefits.
  • Oh! You can enter a long ash contest.

Well put points, as you do so well Bob.

"Your tongue will feel like camel dung in the Najib."

So. Enquiring minds want to know. What does camel dung in the Najib feel like?
... and how does that differ, say, from your average Victor Sinclair?

Seriously, I don't think it's bought to be burnt, is it? Just a novelty.

Your most likely right...

So. Enquiring minds want to know. What does camel dung in the Najib feel like?

I could imagine something like "barn yard"

... and how does that differ, say, from your average Victor Sinclair?

Most likely not very much?

Seriously, I don't think it's bought to be burnt, is it? Just a novelty.

One would think to a degree but, apparently some don't. ...myself excluded. A novel way of smoking maybe? A sport.

My brother in St. Louis used to work for the Postal Service. At their annual picnic. year after year, everybody would complain when they saw 3 double coronas sticking out of his t-shirt pocket when he arrived. So one year, he showed up with The General sticking out of his t-shirt pocket, and paraded around, threatening to light it up. I guess it was good for only one picnic.

After that, he gave it to me. But I, I took the road less traveled by...and smoked it...in the car, no less.

p.s. scorched, dry and smelly.

I received my Tobacco order this morning from WLT and went to work on my first roll this afternoon. I had some problems with getting a tight wrap with the binder. I just can't seem to hold the filler together well enough. I did manage to get my first 1 done and put the wrapper on it. I tried not to use a mold but had to after 2 tries with out one.
I've yet to light it up yet I think I'll give it a try tomorrow after it sits overnight.
I really learned alot from GDADDY's videos. Thanks Again for doing them and posting them here.
Here's the picture of my first one. I have 1 more in a mold ready the have a wrapper put on.

Charlie - that looks about 10x better than my first stick. Heck my first 50!

The Habano 2000, though not quite as mild, is a close substitute for Ecuador Sumatra wrapper. It's also a little sturdier and more forgiving.

Here's a few of my latest cigars. I put caps on 2 of them cause I intend to give those 2 to a friend to see what he thinks of the blend. I'm up to about 15 total cigars rolled.
They came out a little lumpy so I did more searching and reading and from now on I'm rolling the binder and wrapper with a 12" dowel rod to smooth the leaves.
I'm also getting a feel for how much tension and spreading of the binder and wrapper needs to get a smoother finish.
I must say this is addicting. I'm ready to order more tobacco.
I also want to thank the guys on this site for posting the videos and info on rolling, it has really helped.

If you want a very smooth finished look after putting on the wrapper press them in the mold for a few hours or even over night. They come out looking very uniform.

15 total cigars is all this guy has rolled. Can you believe that? At 15 cigars I was rolling knobbly cheroots looked like I was clearing leaves out of the gutter. This guy is outrageous. 15 sticks.. And he rolls this.

Webmost I had some great how to from you guys on this site. I have watched most all of the rolling videos on the site.
One of the hardest things I've found is my sticks are coming out way long in length. I hate to cut them and waste the baccy but I know soon I will go for a 6" X 50 or 52 size standard.
I just used up the first tobacco blend kit I bought and am ordering a pound of everything that was in it next week. Don sure did a great job making them up.

Cut it from the end that goes in your mouth. This is why I cap later. Buying by the pound is the Best way to Purchase Whole Leaf Tobacco, well, apart from a group buy, that's the best way.

Flattening veins came up in an earlier post so I thought I'd share what I picked up for it:

I sat down tonight and tried rolling a shaped cigar. It didn't come out as tapered as I wanted, but not bad. It took me 3 tries to get the wrapper as good as it is.
This was good rolling practice and helped me get the feel for putting the final wrapper on sticks. I tried my hand at caps again also.
I don't know how it will taste case I'm out of any seco, so it might be a strong side.

This is addicting, and I don't mean the smoking.

Them cigars look cool and the counter with the checkerboard end grain is even cooler. That increases the labor and quality considerably.
